Simplify your lives with Microsoft 365
Microsoft is amongst the leaders in offering technology benefits to its users. We all have heard of Microsoft and its popular products such as Internet Explorer, MS Office, MS DOS and Bing Xbox 360. Microsoft 365 amongst these is perhaps one product that majority of us can relate to. Introduced in the year 2011, Office 365 is a suite of software applications developed by Microsoft, that aim to provide productivity tools to its subscribers.
While the two terms are used synonymously, there exists a fine line of difference between the two offerings. Of the two, Office 365 is the predecessor, having been introduced in the year 2011.
Office 365 includes the standard apps i.e., MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint along with other services namely Sharepoint, To Do, Teams, Yammer, OneDrive and Stream among others. Microsoft 365 on the other hand is a slightly more comprehensive bundle aimed towards businesses. It includes all of the applications that an Office 365 subscription would include, plus Windows 10 license and EMS (Enterprise Mobility + Security) tools. Microsoft EMS tools are inclined towards overall security, threat and information protection and access management. Some of the well-known offerings under EMS include Microsoft Intune, Azure Active Directory and Azure Advanced Threat Protection. In April 2020 however, the company rebranded its Office 365 plans to Microsoft 365, with subscriptions plans essentially remaining the same.
The year 2020 has been a year of adapting to changes and one such notable mention has been the work from home trend, or rather a necessity. Virtual desktop infrastructure has witnessed a tremendous rise in adoption, with increasing number of employees operating from their homes. VDI is a technology that enables access and management of virtual desktops. As aftermath of COVID-19 continues, businesses have evolved and adapted themselves to remote working environments, pushing further the need for collaborative tools. Microsoft 365 is one such solution that empowers your remote workforce. It offers seamless connectivity, enabling team members to stay in touch with each other.
The popularity of Microsoft 365 can be gauged from the fact that as per company’s FY20 Q1 results, there are over 200 million monthly active users. Microsoft Teams in particular has been very popular during the COVID crisis, with nearly 75 million active users on a daily count. Microsoft teams serves as great means of communication among remote workers, offering features such as document collaboration, individual as well as group chat options, whiteboard brainstorming, creating meeting notes etc. Microsoft Teams is available in Windows, iOS and Android and is compatible with a web browser, desktop and mobile application.
